The care-free car-free

Let's hear it for our beloved bike lovers that don't know a whole lot about bikes.

The mechanically inept commuters, the pre-licensed, and even the messengers with no stinking technical know-how whatsoever. Hats off to our friends and lovers who just want to ride and couldn't care less about gear-inches or frame geometry. Cheers to our fellow cyclists who don't know the difference between a tire and a wheel, but understand EXACTLY why bikes rule. Hub laced to a what?!

Hip, hip, hooray for the care-free car-free. Beijing bikers. Amsterdam cycle-moms. Untroubled travelers. Coast-to-coast tourists riding who-knows-what.

Doesn't matter. Call clean.

Here's a picture of my trusty steed just prior to cast off in 1995. Started in Modesto, CA, to SF, and then headed "down" the coast to LA. with no tent, no granny gear, no experience, no MONEY, and plastic flat pedals. Solo.
